Structural design of sprockets

  1. Tooth shape of sprocket

The sprocket tooth shape must ensure that the chain can save energy to enter and exit the engagement smoothly and freely, minimize the impact and contact stress of the chain links when engaging, and it should be easy to process.

The commonly used sprocket wheel end face tooth shape is shown in Fig. 1, which is composed of three arcs aa, ab, cd and a straight line bc, referred to as three arcs - straight line tooth shape. The tooth shape is processed by standard tool, and it is not necessary to draw the end face tooth shape on the working drawing of the sprocket, and it is only necessary to indicate on the drawing that "the tooth shape is manufactured in accordance with the provisions of 3RGB1244-85"; however, it is necessary to draw the axial tooth shape of the sprocket, see Fig. 2, and its dimensions should be referred to the relevant design manuals. Parameter calculation has been mentioned earlier, without repeating the description!

  1. Sprocket structure

Figure 3 shows four commonly used sprocket structures. Small diameter sprocket is generally made into a whole (Figure 3a), medium diameter sprocket is mostly made into a spoke plate type, in order to facilitate the handling, loading card and weight reduction, open holes in the spoke plate (Figure 3b), large diameter sprocket can be made into a combination (Figure 3d), at this time, the tooth ring and the core of the wheel can be made of different materials! For example, C45, stainless steel and other materials.

  1. Sprocket material

The material of the sprocket should ensure that the teeth have sufficient strength and wear resistance, so the tooth surface of the sprocket is generally heat-treated to achieve a certain hardness.
